Many companies are looking for new ways to surprise their employees through events and activities that strengthen ties among peers and generate a good memory.
Finding original new formats is not an easy task, however. In this article, we are going to put forward a different suggestion that will encourage and motivate teams in a company: why not organize a road trip?
Organizing road trips is by no means a new format. Many car manufacturers use them to build customer loyalty, and there are even companies dedicated to organizing this type of experience for car and motorbike lovers, or indeed for enthusiasts of any brand in particular. But it is not common to organize a road trip for a corporate event or an incentive.
Contrary to appearances however, it is a very versatile format that can be used as a perfect complement for a convention or even for one of the “Fam Trips” that tourism professionals appreciate so much.
Participants tend to have a really good time on trips of this nature, because they combine beautiful landscapes, charming accommodation and good food. The environment and the type of road will play a crucial role in making the experience a success, but there are a number of other factors that are important and that you should keep in mind before you plan the route:
The environment: it must be beautiful and rural, with interesting touristic attractions.
The roads: This is not about rallying, this is about having a good time. Winding roads are ideal, but try to choose wide ones with bends that are easy to control.
Communication technology: use walkie talkies so that all the groups can communicate with each other. Some mobile apps have this function, but they are not very reliable in areas where the signal is poor.
The vehicles: it will depend on the nature of the trip and the typology of the participants. If you want something more adventurous you can use 4-wheel drive cars or even snow bikes. But there are many more options, such as sports cars, classic cars, convertibles, motorcycles, quads…
Number of participants and vehicles: there is no optimal number of participants. But remember the motto: “The more we are, the more we laugh”. Everything will depend on the route you choose and the places you visit. The more vehicles involved, the better planned everything will have to be.
Duration: ideally, each trip should last between one and two hours, but a lot will depend on the type of road. It may well be just an activity tacked onto a convention that only takes a couple of hours, or it may be up to three days exploring a region.
Accommodation and gastronomy: There’s no denying that although many participants will enjoy driving and visiting tourist attractions, it is the accommodation and the meals that are key to making the experience exceed your expectations. Look for places with charm, with a touch of authenticity and which exude local culture.
Spain abounds in areas that are perfect for trips of this nature, with lots of charming accommodations along the way. We would suggest La Bobadilla, a Royal Hideaway hotel, the Barceló Jerez Montecastillo hotel and the Barceló Monasterio de Boltaña hotel.
These three hotels are located in unique rural settings, with nice and easy roads to travel, and its facilities and services are perfect for hosting this type of corporate event. In addition to being able to organize meetings and training sessions in their rooms, they have outdoor spaces which are perfect for organizing coffee breaks, activities, cocktails or even gala lunches or dinners.
They are used to working with groups that organize routes or with companies in the automotive sector, so they really know the needs of a group with these characteristics.
